Guidelines
Respect other people’s boundaries. Do not harass, threaten, impersonate, spam, or share someone else’s private information. Keep content appropriate for the room and follow its moderators’ instructions.
Ask before recording or redistributing another person’s camera feed. Stop contacting someone who asks you to stop. Report problems using the person’s name menu so room moderators can review them.
Privacy and account data
thechat.cam stores account details, chat history, uploaded content, moderation reports, and game records needed for its features. Connection records can include IP addresses and device information used for account security and moderation. Authorized staff tools can expose security and moderation records.
Private messages are not logged. PMs are delivered live between the two people in the conversation and are not stored on our servers, kept in history, or readable by staff. They are not end-to-end encrypted — they pass through the server only to be delivered — but nothing is retained: once delivered, a PM is not recoverable. The only exception is a message sent to someone who is offline, which is held just until their next login, delivered once, and then deleted — never kept as history.
Unsent room drafts are stored in this browser tab. Solo game progress is saved on this device and, when signed in and connected, to your account. Close your session on shared devices and avoid posting sensitive information in rooms or camera feeds.
Frontend performance reports include release identifiers, timing measurements, error counts, and script locations. Those performance reports do not include message text, names, account tokens, or complete URLs. Embedded media and external links may contact other services.
Retention (30-day cap). Chat messages, uploaded doodles and photos, moderation reports, points history, and connection/device records are automatically deleted after at most 30 days. Busy rooms roll off sooner, because each room keeps only its most recent messages. Private messages are not logged, so they have no retention period; the only exception is a message to an offline recipient, which is held until their next login, deleted on delivery, and swept within 30 days if never collected. Account details (your profile and login), your saved game progress, and active safety bans are kept for as long as your account or the ban is in effect, and are not part of the 30-day log cap.
For an account or privacy concern, contact a site administrator through thechat.cam. This page explains the current interface and data handling.
Safety controls
Select a person’s name to find reporting and blocking options. A report goes to room moderators. Include a short explanation if it helps them understand the issue. Blocking and closing a camera give you immediate control over your own experience.
Before broadcasting, check camera privacy and who can view your stream. Do not share passwords, stream keys, precise private locations, or payment details in chat. If a situation involves immediate danger, use local emergency services.
